Equestrian Culture’s Panel of International Riders

Equestrian Culture is proud to introduce the first members of our new panel of up and coming riders. These young yet successful women are already making names for themselves nationally and internationally. We plan ‘to go along for the ride’ with these talented equestrians and learn more about their path in each issue.

Josephina Nor Lantzman: Brazilian Talent

Josephina, known by her peers as Phina, first sat on a horse at the racetrack where her parents had a stable of stakes winners. She fell in love and after begging her parents for years, she finally got her white dream pony, Bloomers. Far from the perfect angel pony, Phina fell off daily but got right back in the saddle. Her trainers were always surprised at the smiles even after a hard day.

Continuing her intensive hunter, jumper and equitation training during her formative years, Phina traveled overseas to Europe to train with Brazilians Nelson and Rodrigo Pessoa once she graduated from high school. After two years and a Nations Cup debut, she returned to her hometown of Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Josephina Nor Lantzman and Chello Z are well known for their fabulous style and numerous grand prix victories. Phina and her father Fabio are a great team, and together they produce excellent results. Phina proudly represents her father’s home country of Brazil when she competes at the grand prix level.

Tatiana Dzavik:
Canadian Wonder

“I have known that I wanted to do this since I was about eight years old and it has never changed. I have been pushing and fighting for it ever since then.”

Tatiana moved to Florida from her home country of Canada for the winter show circuit at age 14. One year later, she began riding as a working student in Florida. Toward the end of her junior career, Tatiana also worked with international jumper trainer Missy Clark.

Tatiana’s final junior year was a pivotal one. She was ranked in the top 10 junior riders in North America. However, she also had the opportunity to compete in the jumpers for the first time, a turning point in her aspirations. Tatiana had discovered her love for the sport of show jumping.

Also in her mid-twenties, Dzavik is living in Germany and has formed her own enterprise. She plans to stay to train and compete for the next year or so while building up the string of horses from her various owners and sponsors. Her goal is to build a team strong enough to be competitive in the International Divisions in the near future.

Lauren Hester:
Aspiring American

Lauren’s passion for riding started in the pony ring at the age of 10. As she moved up the ranks in the Junior Divisions, she continued to excel. She ended her junior career winning several medal finals. As the 2004-2005 Junior Jumper Hall of Fame winner, Lauren also excelled in the jumper arena.

Since her junior years, Lauren has always enjoyed developing her own horses. When not competing, Lauren would work with her horses at home on her own with what she had learned from her trainer, Karen Healey. Then she would meet Healey at the shows.

Now in her mid-twenties, Lauren trains in the Netherlands with Emile Hendrix and staff. Far from home but with international aspirations, Lauren runs Hester Equestrian. She manages a group of horses, both building a solid string for her show jumping goals and developing young horses. Over the last five years, Hester Equestrian has sold a handful of talented mounts to riders in various disciplines from show jumping to hunters to dressage. Even though she lives abroad, Lauren looks to represent the United States one day.
